Users have been reporting that Sony Xperia M5 is experiencing sudden automatic shutdown.
And the phone cannot be turn on until it is connected to the usb port.

My personal experience with Sony Xperia M5 is as follows

8 Oct          - bought Sony Xperia M5 from Singtel.
16,17,18 Oct - experience 3 shutdowns and phone need to be connected to usb power to switch on
22 Oct         - sent in Sony for repair
5 Nov          - Sony replace the faulty set with a brand new set
18 Nov         - experience 1st automatic shutdown with the 2nd Sony Xperia M5
10 Dec         - 2nd automatic shutdown with the 2nd Sony Xperia M5


I believe one possible way to prevent Sony Xperia M5 automatic shutdown is
settings => power management => uncheck "queue background data"

The above setting is what I set on the Xperia M5 which may prevent the automatic shutdown from happening too frequently.

29 Jan: Latest update. This is one of the best way to prevent  automatic shutdown on Xperia M5.
 Apparently, the shutdown happen when the phone was trying to connect to the network in area where the network signal is no good. e.g. in areas like lift, underground, tunnels, MRT, etc.

So one simple solution is to turn off the mobile data. Without mobile data, you cannot surf internet, use whatapp, wechat, line, etc. But you can still receive and made phone calls, receive and send SMS.
So the trick is to turn off mobile before u turn off the screen. then u can go mrt, lift or any other danger zone of poor signal. When you reach safely zone with strong signal or when u need to use your phone, u can turn the mobile data back on.

How to fix Sony Xperia M5 automatic shutdown problem

26 Feb: It seems that the must sure way to prevent Xperia M5 from auto shutdown down is to turn the handphone network to GSM only. To turn to GSM only: go to Settings > More > Mobile networks > Preferred network type > GSM only

Amazon.com sells just about thing under the sun, however I find buying blu-rays from Amazon save a lot as compared to buying Blu-rays in Singapore. A typical Blu-ray at Amazon cost about US$15 to US$30. In Singapore, it can easily cost SG$40-60!
